A new fossil fish fauna from the Maceió Formation is presented in a preliminary overview. The outcrops are from mid Aptian to Early Albian and yield a fossil fauna which includes two fish specimens belonging to the Clupeomorph and Gonorhynchiform groups. The clupeomorph fish is of small size (about 60 mm) and displays paraclupeinae characters indicating close relationships with Paraclupea and Ellimmichthys. The gonorhynchform fish is identified as Dastilbe crandalli, already known from other Cretaceous formations. Sedimentological and paleontological information suggest that although non-marine conditions dominated in this unit, the possibility of marine connections has to be considered.
